Lady Lakers Season Ends in Regional Quarterfinals
UTICA, NY. – The Lady Lakers season reached an end last Friday (3/1) as they fell to #4 Fulton-Montgomery CC in the 2013 regional quarterfinals, 64-51. Finger Lakes, seeded fifth in the playoff contest, entered regional postseason play having won 15 of its previous 18 games. With the loss, the Lady Lakers finished the 2012-13 season wearing an 18-13 record.
Friday's meeting, which was held at Mohawk Valley CC, the site of this year's regionals, was the second one held this season between Finger Lakes and Fulton-Montgomery. In a home matchup with the Lady Raiders back on 12/4/12, the Lady Lakers fell 65-51.
Finger Lakes, in what was its season finale, was led in the scoring column by Casi Strait and her 17 points. The sophomore, on her final day in a Lady Lakers uniform, in addition to her scoring, tallied 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. She finished her final season at Finger Lakes carrying a 19.7 points per game scoring average. Her scoring average currently ranks her 8th in the nation in its category.
Following Strait in the scoring column for the Lady Lakers was Jordan Smith. In what was her final game as well in an FLCC jersey, the forward, on 4-9 shooting, compiled 10 points on the afternoon. To go along with her point-total, Smith pulled down 14 rebounds in the losing effort.
Adding a pair of 9-point, 3-steal showings for Finger Lakes were sophomores Kelli McCauley and Julia Pagano. Pagano, in addition to her points, administered 4 assists. Both McCauley and Pagano wrapped up solid careers as Lady Lakers with their performances in the regional quarterfinal contest.
