Women’s Soccer – FLCC Edges Tough Opponent in Mohawk Valley, 2-1

UTICA, NY. – The #2 nationally ranked Lady Lakers faced their toughest opponent of the 2012 season to date yesterday when they took on #3 nationally ranked Mohawk Valley CC on the road.

What a game it was. Finger Lakes (5-0, 3-0 MSAC) and the Lady Hawks would play to a nail biter – but it would be the Lady Lakers who would prevail. They found the goal-scoring column just one more time than Mohawk Valley on Tuesday. The Lady Lakers took the contest, 2-1.

Finding the net for Finger Lakes in the win were sophomore's Paige Smith (midfielder) and Hannah Dalle (defender/forward). Both of their goals were unassisted. Smith's marker was her 1st on the season while Dalle's goal equaled her 6th of 2012.

The Lady Lakers earned the road victory yesterday, which was there 3rd away from their own yard this season, by bringing great energy to the field on both the offensive and defensive ends throughout the duration of the showdown.

Also contributing in the win for Finger Lakes was none other than goalkeeper Kristy Kirkpatrick. The sophomore standout notched 5 saves on 6 Lady Hawk shot attempts.

Overall, the Lady Lakers only outshot Mohawk Valley by a hair – 6-5. The Lady Hawks, who now stand at 7-1 on the season, proved to be worthy of their top 10 national ranking after taking on Finger Lakes at their own place on Tuesday.

The Lady Lakers will take on Fulton-Montgomery CC in their next matchup this coming Saturday (9/15). The game will be played at Finger Lakes and is charted to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
