Women’s Soccer – FLCC Nets Road Win Over GCC, 7-Nil
BATAVIA, NY. – In a road game under the lights at the confines of Genesee CC last night, Finger Lakes, the nation's second ranked team, squared off with the hosts – the Lady Cougars – at 7:00 p.m. Entering the game, the Lady Lakers were seeking their ninth victory of 2012 while Genesee was looking to put an end to a recent 3-game losing streak.
Unfortunately for the Lady Cougars, that streak would extend itself to 4 games upon the conclusion of last night's matchup with Finger Lakes. The Lady Lakers (9-0-1, 3-0 MSAC) took the game into their own hands early on in the first half and never looked back. They seized the win over Genesee on Tuesday – 7-nil.
The Lady Cougars, despite falling, displayed great energy all night long on their own pitch. They exerted a high level of tenacity for all 90 minutes of the meeting.
In terms of scoring, Finger Lakes put their mark on the scoreboard in a seemingly quick matter. They notched a pair of goals within the first 5 minutes of the game. The members of the Lady Lakers roster responsible for the tallies were Hannah Dalle and Rebecca Giacapuzzi – respectively.
Finger Lakes would go on to notch two more goals in half number one. Natasha Hyland scored the Lady Lakers third goal of the game while Dalle added her second helper of the half after Hyland's.
The Lady Lakers would head into intermission leading 4-nil. Finger Lakes would go on to tack on 3 more goals in the games final half. 2 of those goals came off of the shooting foot of standout forward Cayli Carmona.
Lauren Maynard was responsible for Finger Lakes final goal of the night. In addition to the Lady Laker goals, they received 3 assists and 2 assists respectively out of Carmona and Dalle.
Despite falling, Genesee's keeper Nicole Patterson turned in a quality performance in between the crossbars – with her 13 saves. For the Lady Lakers, goalie Kristy Kirkpatrick recorded 2 saves in the contest.
The Lady Cougars, who now stand at 2-7-1 overall on the season, will remain at home for their next game. They will take on North Country CC this Saturday (9/29) at 2:00 p.m.
Finger Lakes will play next tomorrow at home against Niagara County CC. That game is expected to get underway at 4:00 p.m.
