Women’s Soccer – Carmona Leads #2 Nationally Ranked FLCC to 8-Nil Win
CANANDAIGUA – The #2 nationally ranked Lady Lakers picked up their sixteenth victory of the season on Sunday by taking down Tompkins Cortland CC at home – 8-nil.
FLCC (16-1-1, 5-0 MSAC), playing in its final regular season game of 2012, faced a quality opponent in front of their own fans yesterday. The Lady Panthers, fresh off of a 1-1 draw with the nation's tenth ranked team in Herkimer County CC, came into the contest looking to add a noteworthy victory to their resume. Unfortunately, their quest was denied as FLCC's offense came ready to play. Despite the score, TC3 played a hard, physical 90 minutes worth of soccer.
Leading the way in the shutout for the Lady Lakers was forward Cayli Carmona. The standout sophomore discovered the goal-scoring column four different times. Additionally, she tacked on an assist to go along with her markers. With her 9 points, Carmona continues to lead the nation in points, goals scored, and assists. She currently has 97 points (33 goals and 31 assists) in 2012. The four helpers that she had yesterday now gives her the most-ever in a season in the history of the women's soccer program at FLCC. She surpassed Renee Smith's mark of 29 goals – which came in 2007.
Scoring the other four goals (one each) on Sunday for FLCC were Hannah Dalle, Paige Smith, Emily Stritzel, and Lauren Maynard. Dalle, who also added an assist in the win, is now second in the nation in scoring with 62 points (23 goals and 16 assists).
Jeri Baker and Rachel Hefner rounded out the Lady Lakers offense by handing out one assist apiece.
Overall, the hosts outshot the visiting Lady Panthers – 33-9 – in the afternoon matchup. Claiming 9 saves on the winning end in between the crossbars for FLCC was Kristy Kirkpatrick.
The loss dropped TC3's 2012 record to 6-8-2 (2-3 MSAC). They will remain on the road for their next game, which is scheduled for Wednesday (10/17) when they take on Onondaga CC. That contest will be the final one of the regular season for the Lady Panthers. In order to advance into postseason play, TC3 must claim a victory in its meeting with Onondaga.
The Lady Lakers will conclude their regular season tomorrow when they hit the road where they will take on Jefferson CC. That game is slated to get underway at 5:00 p.m. Jefferson will enter the game with a 10-5-1 (3-1 MSAC) record.
