Lakers Fall in Season Opener at Corning
CORNING, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team opened its 2025-26 season on the road Wednesday night, falling 87-73 to Corning Community College despite a balanced offensive effort and strong rebounding performance.
The Lakers got early energy from Ian Florence (Rochester, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit), who knocked down 3 shots from beyond the arc to finish with 11 points. Joe Caito (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) added 11 points and led the team on the glass with 9 rebounds, while George Spinelli (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) contributed 7 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds.
Off the bench, Mekai Daniels (Corning, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) provided a spark with 9 points, and Xxavier Benjamin (Donaldsonville, LA./Donaldsonville) added 7 points and 6 rebounds. Kriss Baskevics (Kekava, Latvia/International School of Nice) went a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor for 7 points, while Ryan Clark (Orlando, FL./South Lake) chipped in 7 points, 5 boards, and 2 steals.
Finger Lakes outrebounded Corning 40-37 and got to the free-throw line 36 times, but couldn't overcome a costly 30 turnovers on the night.
