Lacrosse – Lakers Defeat Broome On Road, Timerson Scores Game Winner
BINGHAMTON, NY. – With the game knotted at seven with less than one minute remaining on the clock in the second half of today's contest between the Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (8-8, 3-1 MSAC, 6-4 Region III) and the Broome Community College Hornets, it was beginning to look like the game was headed into overtime until the Lakers took matters into their own hands.
With the ball, Finger Lakes standout freshman midfielder Jack Timerson (Newark, NY) used his athleticism to nudge his way to the goal to net the game winner with fifty-one seconds remaining on the clock. Timerson's goal secured an 8-7 victory for the Lakers, putting the team back to .500 in the win-loss column.
Finger Lakes controlled the tempo of the first three periods of today's matchup with Broome. They built a 7-2 lead heading into the fourth period, but squandered it as the Hornets came all the way back to tie the game at seven with 5:21 remaining on the clock before Timerson put the game away.
With the win, the Lakers have now been in three consecutive games decided by just one goal, going 2-1 over that stretch.
Timerson led Finger Lakes in the scoring department this afternoon by pouring in 2 goals and 2 assists in the winning effort. His 2-goal, 2-assist game now gives him a total of 24 goals and 23 assists on the season (in 16 games played).
Matt Fuller (Medina, NY) led the Lakers in the goal-scoring column today as he notched his second hat-trick in less than one week. He last delivered a 3-goal game on 4/11 in a 12-11 road win over Alfred State College. Fuller now has 19 goals on the season (in 14 games played).
Steve Campaniello (Rochester, NY), like Timerson, also scored a pair of goals for Finger Lakes today. Along with his goal, he tacked on an assist, finishing the game with three points. With his helper, Campaniello currently stands ninth in the nation in total assists. He has 28 assists* in 2012 (in 16 games played).
Joshua Taylor (Calgary, Alberta) scored the Lakers other remaining goal. With his goal, he remains in the top five (third overall) in the nation on the season for most goals scored with 44** (in 16 games played).
Rob Pelkey (Fairport, NY), Chris Tauterouff (Canandaigua, NY), and Jordan Quayle (Canandaigua, NY) each added one assist apiece for Finger Lakes in the win.
Lakers goaltender John Perrucci (Myrtle Beach, SC) continued his successful freshman campaign by stopping 15 shots in 60 minutes worth of action. He remains the nation's leader in total saves with 270*** (in 16 games played).
Finger Lakes will return to action on Saturday (4/21) when they travel to Delhi, NY to take on the SUNY Delhi Broncos at 1:00 pm. The Broncos overall record currently stands at 9-2 on the season.
