The Finger Lakes Men's Soccer team fell to Broome Community College on Wednesday by the score of 1-0. This was the season opening match for both squads.
The game was played in the middle third for most of the first half, as no team gained solid possession of the ball. A blow came to the Lakers early as starting goaltender Barizaa Worwor had to leave fifteen minutes in due to injury. Brian Arcara came in for relief and provided many key saves. It was the first collegiate action for both freshmen.
The lone goal for the Hornets was netted early in the second half as Turner Antonakos found Robbie Hoover in the box. Hoover beat Arcara for what ended up being the deciding goal.
Arcara, a freshman from Orchard Park, keep the game close with some key saves in the second half. He had 10 saves in total. Finger Lakes was able to put together a few chances, but they were unable to find the back of the net. AJ Carselli led the Lakers in shots with a pair on net, but Kevin Mack stopped every shot he faced from Finger Lakes to earn the shutout.
Finger Lakes will return to action this weekend in the Finger Lakes Classic. The four-team, Labor Day tournament will feature Mercyhurst North East, Mohawk Valley, and Jamestown. The Lakers will face Jamestown at 3pm on Saturday and Mercyhurst NE at 3pm on Sunday.
