CANANDAIGUA -- The Finger Lakes Men's Soccer team would fall to Hudson Valley Community College on Wednesday by the score of 3-2. The Lakers are now 0-3-1 on the young season.
The Vikings pressured the Lakers from the beginning. Freshman goalkeeper Brian Arcara was called upon the in 12th minute as he would leap to tip the ball over the crossbar. The pressure continued in the 19th minute as the Lakers would concede a penalty kick. Mitch Hass would strike the ball off the post on the kick and PJ Priore would follow up on the rebound. However Arcara would recover and slide to make the save.
The Lakers would open the scoring when Michael Maynard found Ben Price who would beat the Vikings keeper for the early 1-0 lead. It was the first career points for both Laker sophomores. Hudson Valley would answer, however, with two goals before the half. The Lakers had a scoring opportunity late in the half when James Ferro shot high on the Vikings net. Alec Volans would rise to make the leaping save.
Ryan Haines would score on a free kick in the 69th minute to level the game at 2. The tie would be short lived though as Hudson would score 6 minutes later to give them the 3-2 lead. Haines would get a shot again a few minutes later off a free kick. Volans would find the ball in the air within the mass of Lakers and Vikings for the save and to preserve the 3-2 victory.
The Lakers take to the road this weekend with a pair of matches. They will play North Country CC on Saturday at 3pm and Clinton CC at 2:30pm.
