CANANDAIGUA -- James Ferro scored two goals, including the game-winner, to lift the Finger Lakes Men's Soccer team over Niagara County Community College on Wednesday by the score of 3-1. The Lakers' overall record is now at 4-8-3 and they have leveled their regional record at 3-3.
The Lakers would waste no time getting on the scoreboard. In the 16th minute, James Ferro would use his head and beat the Thunderwolves keeper with a header for the 1-0 lead, which would carry to halftime. Just three minutes into the second half, the same result would happen as Ferro would score to make it 2-0. It was the freshman from Wheatland-Chili's third goal in the last two games. Michael Maynard would score just two minutes later to balloon the lead to 3-0. Niagara would get on the board in the 80th minute, but it would not be enough as the Lakers would win the match 3-1. Barizaa Worwor would make a pair of saves to earn the win and improve his record to 3-2 on the year.
The Lakers will remain home this Saturday for a matchup with nationally ranked Tompkins Cortland Community College. Kickoff with the #5 ranked Panthers is scheduled for 1pm.
