Evan Stevely, Mike Rasciatore Named Athletes of the Week
CANANDAIGUA — The Finger Lakes Community College men's soccer team opened the 2021 season with a huge road win over nationally-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College, and a pair of Lakers took home Athlete of the Week honors for their roles in the victory.
Freshman goalie Mike Rasciatore (East Rochester, N.Y./East Rochester) earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Goalkeeper of the Week after making seven saves in the win over the No. 4 Hawks. Included among Rasciatore's stops was a diving first-half save that kept the game scoreless.
Freshman forward Evan Stevely (Rochester, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) scored twice in his first collegiate soccer match vs. the Hawks to earn NJCAA Region III Athlete of the Week. Stevely scored FLCC's first goal in the 34th minute, then after the Hawks had taken a 2-1 lead, Stevely netted the eventual game-winning goal with 11 minutes remaining to lift the Lakers to victory.
FLCC returns home for five straight games at their turf facility, beginning with a 7 p.m. clash vs. Bryant & Stratton College-Rochester Saturday evening.
