Frank Clark Transitions to Head Coach of FLCC Men’s Volleyball Program
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes Community College has announced that Frank Clark will take over as the new head coach of the Lakers' men's volleyball program. Clark transitions into the role after serving as FLCC's head softball coach during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
Clark is no stranger to success on the volleyball court. He coached the Victor boys varsity team from 1989–1993 and again from 2002–2007, leading the program to five Sectional Titles and one State Championship. He also spent six years at Fairport, where he guided the boys' varsity program from 1994–1999 and the girls' varsity team from 1995–2000, capturing a Sectional Title in 1999. More recently, he served as an assistant coach with Victor from 2009–2019, helping the program to three Sectional Titles and back-to-back State Championships. Since 2020, Clark has been the JV boys coach and varsity assistant at Penfield, whose varsity squad claimed the 2024 State Championship.
"I am both excited and grateful to be taking over a program that has set the bar high as far as expectations on and off the court," said Clark. "My goal is to continue the excellence that both Andrew Solomon and Steven Verbridge instilled in the men's volleyball program."
In preparing for his first season, Clark emphasized a return to fundamentals.
"We will continue to focus on the basic skills of the game, which start with serve and pass," he explained. "From there, we will put in our team systems, including serve receive, defense, and out-of-system play. Coach Solomon and I will continue to recruit players who embrace the concepts of being student-athletes, good teammates, and look to grow both on and off the court."
Clark also highlighted his broader coaching philosophy.
"My past teaching and coaching experiences have helped me to understand the importance of helping players develop a love and understanding for the game while becoming a close-knit team by creating a sincere trust and respect for each other," he said. "Players who are as excited for their teammates' accomplishments as they are their own make special teams, and that is what I hope to develop in this program."
Clark, a longtime educator in the Victor and Penfield school districts, holds a bachelor's degree in education from SUNY Cortland and a master's degree in education from SUNY Brockport. He was named Section V Coach of the Year in boys basketball (2011) and boys volleyball (1992, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006), as well as Monroe County Coach of the Year in girls volleyball (1999) and softball (2023).
Clark lives in Farmington with his wife, Christine. Together, they have three children: Lindsay, a teacher in North Carolina; Lacey, a traveling occupational therapist and former Division I softball player at Hofstra; and Cam, who played on the 2019 NCAA Division III National Champion volleyball team at SUNY New Paltz.
The Lakers men's volleyball program will return to action in Spring 2026 under Clark's leadership as they begin their quest for a third NJCAA National Title.
