As a three-sport athlete at Marcus Whitman High School: Dean, who was a member of the women’s soccer, basketball, and lacrosse teams, was most notably a very good basketball player for four consecutive years. Having played on the women’s hoops team from 2008-12, the freshman, who was named Exceptional Senior in ’12, played inside and outside of the paint at Whitman as both a forward and as a guard. Dean has the ability to score the rock at an effective rate both inside and outside of the free throw lane. An athlete entering the Lady Lakers zone with much promise, the first-year member of the roster will be strongly factored in Finger Lakes offensive and defensive game plans. Penciled in as a guard, Coach Henry will look to utilize her shooting and passing abilities on the wing. Dean has the ability to be a quality spot-up shooter and in addition can be a forceful figure when putting the basketball on the floor. If she gets open looks, expect her to knock down shots rather consistently. If she gets an opportunity to drive to the glass, expect Dean to finish off plays with quality looks and layups on an unfailing basis. Another positive that this new comer brings to the squad is her ability to play hard-nosed defense. Add her defensive capabilities to go along with her offensive capabilities and you have in front of your eyes a promising asset – one that could bring great returns.
