Lloyd Earns Athlete of the Week Honors
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - For a 3rd-straight week, a Lakers student-athlete has earned Athlete of the Week honors. This week, it was track and field student-athlete Leah Lloyd (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon).
This past weekend, Lloyd and the Lakers track and field teams competed in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Geneseo Early Season Invite. The Lakers would battle against severl National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and National College Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III colleges. The Invite featured student-athletes from Geneseo, St. Bonaventure, the University at Buffalo, Canisius, Buffalo State, the University of Rochester, Rochester Institute of Technology, St. John Fisher College, Nazareth College, the State College at Brockport, Ithaca College, and others.
In the mix of competition, Lloyd would come out on top earning a 1st-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11 minutes, 47.81 seconds, a personal record. Lloyd's mark finished 7.51 seconds ahead of 2nd-place finisher Danielle Wallace from the Rochester Insititute of Technology. Lloyd's time earned her a qualifying mark to compete in the upcoming NJCAA Track and Field Region III Championship and the NJCAA Track and Field National Championship. Lloyd would also compete in the 5000-meter steeplechase, qualifying for the event in the Regional and National Championship(s) as well.
Now, Lloyd and the rest of the track and field team will look to make another impression at the Red Dragon Open and Multi Invite at SUNY Cortland this upcoming Saturday, April 9th at 9:30 AM.
