Track & Field Named in National Poll

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College men's and women's track & field teams both earned a spot in the top-10 national poll presented by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Lakers men's track & field team, which earned an 11th place spot in the week 1 rankings, have jumped up to the 3rd-ranked spot amongst all National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III colleges. The Lakers hold the advantage over NJCAA Region III opponent, the #5 Hudson Valley Community College Vikings. The Lakers currently hold eight top-5 marks in all of NJCAA Division III, with John Zimmerman (Middlesex, N.Y./ Marcus Whitman) highlighting the Lakers performers, with the top spot in the steeplechase with a mark of 10:44.45.

The Lakers women's track & field team claimed a top-10 spot on the list, falling just outside of the top-5 as the 6th-ranked team in all of NJCAA, Division III. Leah Lloyd (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) higlights the Lakers performers in their recent meet at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational, claiming the 1st-place spot over several NJCAA and National College Athletic Association competitors, with a mark of 11:47.81.

Both teams will look to continue their impressive run when they travel to the Red Dragon Open and Multi Invite at SUNY Cortland at 9:30 AM.
