The Lakers faced off against Monroe in an exciting match that ended with the Lakers winning sets 3, 4, and 5 to win the match. Monroe took a 2-0 set lead (14-25, 14-25) to start the match. In set 3, the Lakers and Tribunes traded points for the majority of the set with the Lakers pulling away with the set win by a score of 25-21. As momentum shifted to the Lakers side, they won set 4 (25-19) to force a 5th deciding set. A Ryenn Smith kill at 13-13 brought the Lakers to 14-13 where they were able to close out the set and match by a score of 15-13.
"I could not be happier with our teams effort tonight", said head coach Matt Barr. "We lost a tough match to Jefferson the night before and we showed a lot of resiliency tonight".
Smith led attackers with 24 kills with Ali Drier and Courtney Bradish rounding out the offense with 7 kills a piece. Jessie Blumenfeld had 35 assists and led servers with 3 aces. As a team the Lakers recorded 58 digs, led by Bridget Whitehair with 17, Christina Denniston contributing 13, and Bradish and Smith each recording 12 a piece.
The Lakers will travel to Columbia-Greene this Saturday, 9/14 for the first round of pod play. They will face off against Hudson Valley, Columbia-Greene, and Adirondack.
