Baseball - Lakers Swept By Monroe In Home Season Opening Doubleheader
CANANDAIGUA, NY. – The Finger Lakes Community College Lakers (1-9, 0-0 MSAC) were swept by the Monroe Community College Tribunes this afternoon in what was their first and second home games of the 2012 season. The Tribunes blanked the Lakers in both games. Finger Lakes fell by scores of 11-0 (game one) and 3-0 (game two).
In a losing effort in game one, the Lakers were highlighted by the play of starting pitcher David Bradshaw (freshman, Canandaigua, NY). Bradshaw struck out 6 Tribunes over 5 innings worth of work. On an offensive note, Finger Lakes received one hit each from Dominick Beniamino (infielder, sophomore, Geneva, NY) and Corey Cowen (outfielder, freshman, West Edmeston, NY).
In game two, the Lakers received a quality start out of Stephen Lewis (freshman, Pittsford, NY). Lewis allowed just 2 earned runs in 6 innings worth of work. Offensively, Corey Galletta highlighted Finger Lakes by reaching base each time (3) he appeared at the plate this afternoon. Galletta recorded one hit and a pair of walks in the loss. Cowen tacked on a hit and a stolen base for the Lakers.
Finger Lakes will remain at home for its next pair of games. They will take on Niagara County Community College in an afternoon doubleheader on Saturday (3/31). The first pitch of game one is slated to be thrown at 1:00 pm. Game two is expected to get underway at 3:00 pm.
