Austin Williams in the Sophomore Spotlight

Austin Williams in the Sophomore Spotlight

Sophomore Austin Williams has been featured in September’s sophomore spotlight.  Williams is a current member of the men’s soccer team, majoring in Marketing at Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC). He was nominated for the spotlight by his coach, Vince Correa.  To be eligible for the spotlight, sophomore student-athletes demonstrate the values of leadership, integrity, character, and teamwork in their everyday lives.

Williams choose to attend FLCC due to its size and proximity to his hometown, Webster, NY.  “At FLCC, everyone has a good relationship with everyone else since it is a small community.  You can really build relationships with your peers,” said Williams.

As a student-athlete at Finger Lakes, Williams has acquired the ability to juggle multiple activities at once, which has helped him develop as a person.  “I knew coming into FLCC I needed to improve on my time management,” stated Williams.  “As a result of being involved on campus, I met new people and learned how to better manage my time so I could continue to be active on campus.” In addition to his contributions on the soccer field, Williams is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Board (SAAB), acting as a liaison between his team and the athletic department administration.

Reflecting on one of his proudest moments at FLCC, Williams stated, “I truly take pride in my leadership role on the men’s soccer team.  People look up to me and my actions, and I have an opportunity to have an effect on people.  I am proud to give direction to my teammates and to lead by example.”

Williams continues to be a leader with his teammates as well as achieving recognition from his coaches.  “Austin is a tremendous young man. Aside from what he brings as a leader on the field, he takes great pride in giving his teammates advice on how to be successful student-athletes,” said head men’s soccer coach Vince Correa.  “He is constantly giving positive feedback and making sure his teammates all feel included.  We are very lucky to have Austin represent our hard working program.”

Williams intends on graduating from FLCC in December and is currently looking to transfer elsewhere to continue pursuit of a degree in marketing.  If possible, he would like to continue his soccer career, but is extremely content with his current collegiate achievements.  We thank Austin for his contributions to the FLCC department of athletics.
