Carissa Perkins in the Sophomore Spotlight

Carissa Perkins in the Sophomore Spotlight

Sophomore Carissa Perkins has been featured in October’s sophomore spotlight.  Perkins is a member of the women’s soccer team, majoring in business at Finger Lakes Community College.  She was nominated for the spotlight by her coach Pat King.

Perkins decided to attend Finger Lakes Community College because of its size and location.  “I really like Finger Lakes because it is small and it has a very friendly atmosphere,” said Carissa. “It is also close to home.”

As a student-athlete at Finger Lakes, Perkins has learned how to better manage her time and to bond with others.  What she likes most about being a student-athlete at Finger Lakes is the positive team atmosphere and having a great coach to lead them.

Perkins greatest achievement during her time at Finger Lakes was gaining the courage to come out of her shell.  “Prior to coming to FLCC, I was very shy,” said Carissa.  “However, being a member of a team has helped me become more outgoing.”

“Carissa is one of the quieter players on the team, but is a true leader by example,” said head coach Pat King.  “The level of focus, leadership, and intensity that she brings every game, along with stellar play has been essential to our success this season.”

Perkins plans on graduating from Finger Lakes CC in December.  Moving forward, she looks to transfer to a four year university where she can pursue a Bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy.

When asked what she wanted her legacy to be when she left Finger Lakes CC, Carissa stated, “I want people to remember me as a very hard worker and someone who always wants what is best for the team.”
