Katee Martinez in the Sophomore Spotlight

Katee Martinez in the Sophomore Spotlight

Sophomore Katee Martinez has been featured in October’s sophomore spotlight.  Martinez is a current member of the women’s volleyball team, majoring in Liberal Arts and Science at Finger Lakes Community College.  She was nominated by her coach Quinn Wright.

A native of Utah, Martinez chose Finger Lakes Community College because of its scenic area.  “I really liked the look of the campus and the surrounding community,” said Katee.  “It also gave me the experience to grow as an individual so far away from home.”

“I really like Finger Lakes CC because it has a very warm and inviting environment and staff that really make you feel at home, even when you are so far from it,” said Katee.

Martinez has learned a great deal being a student-athlete at Finger Lakes.  As a classic introvert, her interactions as a student-athlete have forced her to become more outgoing and become a new person.  Being a member of a team has helped Katee grow as an individual and become more responsible.

“Being a student-athlete has helped me work better with other people and be a part of a team,” said Katee.  “It has really helped me learn patience because things don’t always go your way.”

“Martinez is a captain who leads by example,” said head coach Quinn Wright. “She always gives 110% effort, and does whatever she can to make the team successful.”

Martinez intends on graduating from Finger Lakes CC in the spring of 2017.  She plans on transferring to a four year institution and is currently looking into SUNY Cortland and Fredonia.

“When I leave Finger Lakes, I would like people to remember me as someone who worked hard and loved what she did,” said Katee.  “I want people to know I enjoyed my time at Finger Lakes and I gave 100 percent all the time.”
