CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College baseball team crossed the 30-win mark in their series sweep over Corning CC, picking up four statement victories over two days of action against the Red Barons.

The Lakers returned home on Monday and picked up right where they left off with a lofty 17-3 win in their first game against Corning. After the contest remained rather tame through three innings, the Lakers unleashed their offensive firepower in the fourth as they brought in 13 runs. The team received contributions from up and down the order, headlined by a deep 2-run bomb from Jeffrey Broadnax that brought home Brennen Russo (East Irondequoit, N.Y./Eastridge), among scores from Christian Morrison (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon)Brody Froman (Irondequoit, N.Y./West Irondequoit)Connor Nguyen (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta) and others to finish off a half-inning where the Lakers imposed their will on the Red Barons. Pitcher Mason McClurg (Warsaw, N.Y./Warsaw) put forth a solid performance in the start with 3 strikeouts, while Andrew Wood (Big Flats, N.Y./Horseheads) delivered an efficient statline as he closed out the final two innings against his hometown team.

Game two saw the Lakers pull out a 3-2 victory. They jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to a 2-run inside-the-park homer from Christian Morrison in the bottom of the second, followed by an RBI single from Patrick Altpeter three innings later. The Red Barons added two runs of their own in the inning thereafter to cut the deficit to just one, but their momentum was cut just short when the Lakers successfully nabbed a double-play to finalize the victory. Pitcher Trenton Muck (Lyndonville, N.Y./Lyndonville) proved to be key for the team, as he received the start and distributed 6 strikeouts – a single-game season high for the ace – while Charlie Cross (Stockbridge Valley, N.Y./Stockbridge Valley) appeared as the closer and delivered a strikeout.

The Lakers (30-16, 14-6) head to Dryden, N.Y. for their next matchup, a conference clash with TC3 (8-26, 5-13) in a doubleheader slated for today, April 29th at 2 & 4 PM.
