His Plaque Reads: Paul played for the FLCC Baseball team in 1996 and 1997. He helped lead the 97 team to a record of 3807 which is a Region III record. Paul was selected to the 1996 Junior College National Team which competed against the Japanese National Team. 

Paul was elected captain of the 1997 Laker team. He led the team in wins, innings pitched and earned run average. Welker was selected first team All-Region, first team Academic All-American and Second Team All-American.

Upon graduation from Finger Lakes, Paul accepted an athletic scholarship to Mercyhurst College. At Mercyhurst, Welker led the pitching staff in wins in 1998 as well as earned run average and most innings pitched.

Welker has remained involved in athletics as a coach and sports information director at both Mercyhurst Northeast and Alfred State College.
