FLCC Esports Builds Momentum as Playoff Qualifiers Approach
We're now entering the end of the regular season for Finger Lakes Community College Esports, and as we head into playoff qualifiers, the players continue to prove they will be intimidating competition for the Spring postseason. This past week gave us some highlight matches, and also new and updated top national standings across the whole program.
On Monday night, the Tekken 8 team collected a combined 5 wins. Team captain Thomas LoDestro, who contributed 3 of these wins, currently sits at 1st place in the current Division III standings. The Fortnite Zero Build teams also had a strong night with 5 total wins. The Orange team of Alex Goble and Alanna Gebo hold onto their 1st place position in Division III while the Blue team of Noah Drouin and Kai Barnes currently sit in 3rd place in Division I.
On Tuesday night, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate player Audrey Tambe earned a standout 3-1 victory against Shelton State.
Wednesday night, we saw Madden NFL player Brennan Bates gain a win against Hudson Valley CC, while Apex Legends player Luis Aviles Rodriguez sweeps 4 matches. He currently sits in 2nd place in Division III standings, though he trails closely behind 1st place. Going into playoff qualifiers, all eyes are on him to potentially earn FLCC Esports a new national title.
Finally, on Thursday night, Street Fighter 6 player Aubrey Moore wins a close fight against Glen Oaks, going all the way and winning 3-2. The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe team racked up a staggering 10 total wins this evening as well, with captain Dayton Gulick currently holding onto 2nd place in Division III.
On Friday, FLCC Esports took a break from the competition to hold the Marvel Rivals Community Clash, a friendly scrimmage with the Marvel Rivals team and other community members. The match was livestreamed on the program's Twitch and the players enjoyed a fun night of friendly competition.
