Canandaigua, NY -- The Finger Lakes Community College men's basketball team defeated the Hornets from Broome Community College 94-88 in double overtime to move to 2-0 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference and improve their overall record to 8-5.
The Lakers and Hornets played a well fought match. By the end of regulation, the score was tied 69 apiece to send the game into overtime. The Lakers battled in overtime to go up by three with 14 seconds remaining, but Broome answered back with a three pointer to send the game into double overtime, with the score tied at 82 apiece. The Lakers took control of the final five minutes and outscored the Hornets 12-6 to claim a conference victory.
Shane Fanning led the Lakers with 28 points and nine rebound against the Hornets. Shabazz Mosley had 24 points and 12 rebounds. Jay Scarbrough finished with 23 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, and nine steals.
The Lakers will return to action on Saturday, January 14 when they host the Cannoneers from Jefferson Community College. Tipoff is set for 1pm on Putt Moore Court.
