Preseason Preview: Men's Soccer

Canandaigua, N.Y. – After completing one of their most successful seasons in program history, the Lakers men's soccer program will see a new face at the helm. In April of 2022, the Athletics Department officially announced Wright as head coach of the men's program. Wright quickly established a relationship with the local community, holding two soccer prospect ID camps to identify talent in the area.

The Lakers will boast almost an entirely new team compared to the Fall of 2021, which saw 8 student-athletes move on to the NCAA level, including…

Chuck Domm (East Rochester, N.Y./ East Rochester) – Winthrop University (D1)

Evan Stevely (Rochester, N.Y./ Bishop Kearney) – Wilmington University (D2)

Russell Domm (East Rochester, N.Y./ East Rochester) – SUNY Brockport (D3)

Kayden Servais – (Holley, N.Y./ Holley) – SUNY Brockport (D3)

Carson DeVinney (Perry, N.Y./ Perry) – SUNY Brockport (D3)

Nate Massucci (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Athena) – SUNY Oneonta (D3)

KEY RETURNERS

Wright expressed the importance of having two returners from the Fall of 2021, "Aidan, Carson, and Schuyler will set the standard for the incoming guys, on and off the pitch", Wright explained.

Aidan Vitticore (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua), Schuyler Cole (North Rose, N.Y./ North Rose-Wolcott), and Carson Williams (Avon, N.Y./ Avon) are the only returners from the Fall 2021 team.

First-year head coach David Wright looks to build sustained success, with high expectations leading into year one. Wright stated, "we are setting that first building block this year to contend for a regional and eventually a national tournament in 2023", he explained. With an almost new team in year one, Wright understands the importance of the development of these student-athletes for their Sophomore seasons.

Wright also expressed the importance of community involvement, "we want to connect this program with the local community here in Canandaigua and the Finger Lakes, we have the opportunity to bring in great local talent in the process". After a strong 2021 campaign, the Lakers will look to continue to build their reputation in Region III.
