Lakers Begin Track and Field Season at Highlander Invitational

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College track and field team launched their 2025 indoor season with a promising start at the Highlander Invitational, hosted by Houghton University. The event provided an opportunity for the Lakers to test their early-season form, with standout performances, personal bests, and national and regional qualifications highlighting the day.

The Lakers' efforts were led by Grace Holmes, who delivered a commanding performance in the pole vault, clearing 2.45m (8'0.5") to achieve a personal record, regional qualification, and NJCAA national qualification. She added to her success with a mark of 8.08m in the triple jump.

Jadah McCarthy also impressed on the track, securing a regional qualification in the 200m dash with a time of 29.78 and clocking an 8.76 in the 60m dash. Terreque Davis was a key performer in the field events, clearing 1.69m in the high jump and running 9.42 in the 60m hurdles.

In the distance events, William Andrew led the way, finishing the mile in 5:19.83 and the 3000m in 10:51.66. Kayla Dunstan and Alana Bedell both contributed with strong performances, as Dunstan ran the mile in 7:11.59 and the 3000m in 14:21.63, while Bedell completed the mile in 7:54.67 and the 800m in 3:34.38.

The sprint and middle-distance groups also delivered notable results. Edwin Del Angel clocked an 8.14 in the 60m dash and a 27.16 in the 200m dash, while Madisyn Everdyke finished the 60m hurdles in 10.86 and the 400m in 1:18.96. Timothy Trost completed the 400m dash in 1:02.14 and the 200m dash in 28.47. Edwin Del Angel rounded out the sprints with times of 8.96 in the 60m dash and 30.68 in the 200m dash.

In the middle-distance events, Griffin Miller ran the mile in 5:42.94 and the 800m in 2:31.18. Edarius Trimble added a solid performance in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:21.39.

With a strong foundation laid at Houghton, the Lakers will return to action on Saturday, February 8th, at SUNY Brockport with hopes of securing more regional and national qualifing marks.
