Several Lakers Earn All-Region Honors

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Bruce Bridgeman Course at Finger Lakes Community College was host to the 2022 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 22nd. Along with the Lakers, other participating schools included SUNY Broome, Clinton, Corning, Erie, Fulton-Montgomery, Herkimer, Hudson Valley, Jefferson, Mohawk Valley, Onondaga, and Tompkins Cortland Community College(s).

Women's Results

On the women's side, and for the Lakers on the day, Leah Lloyd (Macedon, N.Y./ Palmyra-Macedon) was the top finisher, earning a 3rd place finish with a time of 21:46. Lloyd improved her time from a year ago at the 2021 NJCAA Region III Championship, where she claimed the championship, by 23 seconds. Freshman Morgan Cheney (Prattsburgh, N.Y./ Prattsburgh), 8th place, and MacKenzie Ferris (Spencerport, N.Y./ Harley School), 10th place, followed up as the Laker's next finishers.  Ericka Moody (Lyons, N.Y./ Lyons) earned a 17th-place finish in the last home race of her Lakers career.

Men's Results

For the men, the Lakers earned four top-25 finishes. Lakers Freshman Michael Oberdorf (Newark, N.Y./ Newark) earned a 16th-place finish. Lakers John Zimmerman (Middlesex, N.Y./ Marcus Whitman), 18th, Jacob DiGiovanni (Waterloo, N.Y./ Waterloo), 20th, Jackson McManus (Rochester, N.Y./ Greece Arcadia), 21st, where the top four finishers on the men's side for the Lakers. Lakers Aiden Lanse (Newark, N.Y./ Newark), 26th place, Justin Luna (Belmont, N.Y./ Belmont Preparatory), 32nd, and Jake Williams (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./ Honeoye Falls-Lima), 34th, wrapped up the finishers for the team on the day.

Lakers Leah LloydMorgan Cheney, and MacKenzie Ferris earned NJCAA Region III All-Region honors for their efforts in the meet; earning top-10 finishes. Now, the Lakers await their next meet, the NJCAA Division III National Championships at Holyoke Community College in Stanley Park, Massachusetts on November 5th. Sophomore Leah Lloyd will look to compete for the NJCAA Division III National Championship, after placing 3rd just a year ago and earning All-American honors.
