Finger Lakes Softball Earns First Postseason Berth Since 2015

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes softball program secured its first postseason berth since the 2015 season, earning the 8th and final seed in this year's NJCAA Region III Tournament. The Lakers will make the trip to Troy, N.Y., to face the #1-seeded Hudson Valley Community College Vikings in a best-of-3 matchup on Sunday, May 11th at 1 PM. 

The Vikings have rolled to several dominant wins this season, including a pair of wins over the Lakers in the regular season. They enter this year's tournament on a 14-game win streak, while Finger Lakes comes in following an impressive split against the now #3-seeded SUNY Jefferson Cannoneers. 

Offensively, the Lakers have been powered by the standout play of freshman Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island), who leads the team with a .482 batting average, 25 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases—topping all three major categories. Brazen Beckwith (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville) has also delivered at the plate, hitting .380 with 25 RBIs and the team's lone home run. Supporting the core are Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) at .325, Jenna Tyczynski (Westmoreland, N.Y./Westmoreland) at .323, and Cameron Crawford (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne), who holds a .294 average and 22 RBIs.

In the circle, Madison Anderson (Ashville, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) leads the pitching staff with 8 wins and a 4.99 ERA, ranking 7th in Region III with 81 strikeouts.
