Lakers Close Season with First Playoff Berth in a Decade

TROY, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Community College softball team saw its season close on Sunday afternoon, falling to Hudson Valley Community College by identical 14-0 scores in their Region III semifinal series with the Vikings.

In game one, Hudson Valley used a 6-run third inning to break things wide open and never looked back. The Lakers were held to two hits — a double by Emma Johnson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and a single by Devon Dean (Phelps, N.Y./Midlakes). Madison Anderson (Ashville, N.Y./Chautauqua Lake) and Cameron Crawford (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne) split time in the circle.

Game two followed a similar script as Hudson Valley again racked up 14 runs on 22 hits. The lone Laker hit came off the bat of Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island), who ripped a double to break up the no-hitter.

Freshman standouts Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) and Brazen Beckwith (Wellsville, N.Y./Wellsville) headline the list of key returners for the 2026 season after earning Mid-State Athletic Conference (MSAC) All-Conference honors as a dynamic one-two punch in the Lakers' lineup.

Finger Lakes wraps up the 2025 campaign with a 10-22 (2-6 MSAC) record and celebrates its first postseason appearance in a decade — a major step forward under head coach Frank Clark, who will enter his third season at the helm in 2026.
