Finger Lakes Names Jim Caggiano as Head Softball Coach
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes Community College has announced Jim Caggiano as the next head coach of its softball program. Caggiano steps into the role after serving as an assistant coach for the Lakers over the past two seasons under former head coach Frank Clark.
Caggiano brings more than 30 years of experience coaching high school athletics, travel teams, and community programs. His coaching background spans multiple sports, including softball, basketball, baseball, and football, with extensive experience in leadership roles at both the local and regional levels. He has served as president of Victor Community Softball and Victor Community Baseball, while also founding and coaching travel organizations, including the Rochester Wolfpack AAU Basketball and the Victor Blue Devils Baseball.
"I am looking forward to expanding my role as the Head Softball Coach at FLCC after learning the ropes as an assistant coach under Coach Clark and Coach Spinelli over the past two years," Caggiano said. "I am excited to continue to build on the foundation that Coach Clark cultivated and bring FLCC Softball back to the level of competitiveness and relevance it has achieved in the past."
Caggiano's coaching philosophy centers on teaching sport-specific fundamentals while preparing student-athletes for success both on and off the field.
"My overall goal is to foster an environment that will help student-athletes to succeed in every dimension of their post-college career," he explained. "The coaching staff will look to expand on physical skill development, softball acumen, and individual personal growth."
Caggiano emphasizes balance between academics, athletics, and personal well-being.
"My coaching style has adapted over my career, becoming a coach that can work collaboratively with today's student-athletes," he said. "I emphasize keeping an eye on both individual and team success while also paying close attention to the everyday stress of being an athlete in society."
A graduate of Nazareth College, Caggiano resides in Victor, N.Y., with his wife. Together, they raised five children who excelled in athletics, academics, and music.
