Lady Lakers Defeat Jefferson CC in Overtime
Canandaigua, NY -- The Finger Lakes Community College women's basketball team defeated the Jefferson Community College Cannoneers in overtime on Saturday, January 14. With the 58-53 victory, the Lakers improve their conference record to 3-0 and extend their winning streak to eleven.
The Lakers began Saturday's contest very sluggish, scoring only seven points in the first quarter. They began to show signs of life in the second quarter, outscoring the Cannoneers 14-9. Finger Lakes would close out the half down 24-21.
Both teams would remain neck and neck throughout the remainder of regulation. In the final minute of regulation the Lakers found themselves down 46-43. However, in the final second, Janae Brannon sunk a three pointer to send the game into overtime. The Lakers went on to outscore the Cannoneers 12-7 in overtime to seal a Lakers victory.
Krystal Hunter led the Lakers on Saturday with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Megan McAllister finished with a double double. She had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Megan Howell finished with eight points, including six in overtime. She would also add six rebounds.
The Lakers will return to action on Thursday, January 19 when they travel to face the Red Barons from Corning Community College. Tipoff is set for 5pm.
