FLCC New Media Releases Logging Sports Game
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – FLCC New Media has released the FLCC Logging Game, where players will immerse themselves on the Marty Dodge Logging Sports Field at Finger Lakes Community College. Players can compete in the logging events of underhand chop, axe throw, vertical chop, and crosscut and try to beat a high score. The game can be found free on the iOS Apple Store, Android Google Play Store, or on Mac/PC devices.
FLCC New Media students Richard Lomb and Codi Logan co-led the project for their 2021 capstone project, while Hugh Laird led the coding of the game. The project was pitched to the class and agreed upon by the group. From there, the team embarked on a year-long project to code, animate, and produce the FLCC Logging Game.
FLCC logging sports head coach Ryan Staychock was ecstatic when approached with the idea, "I thought it was a great opportunity to draw attention to the college, FLCC New Media, and the logging sports team and show people what our sport is", stated Staychock. The students would begin their collaboration with the team to understand the events featured in the game.
Paul Engin, New Media Coordinator at FLCC praised the collaboration, "I think this is great because it highlights the team (logging sports), along with New Media and its capabilities", Engin added, "we were able to work closely with other groups, departments, and show the capabilities of what student can do at FLCC, we are a collaborative college that isn't afraid to work with other departments", Engin explained.
