Lakers Claim Men's Championship at Home
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – The Finger Lakes Community College logging sports team hosted the 10th Annual Logging Sports Meet on the Laker's home field on Saturday, October 15th. The meet was one of four on-campus events for prospective student-athletes to attend as a part of the FLCC Athletics Showcase. Teams in attendance included SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY ESF, SUNY Morrisville, Paul Smiths College, Ranger School, Alfred State, and UVM.
The men's team for the Lakers took home the trophy, finishing 1st over 2nd place Paul Smiths. With event points totaling over 1500, the two teams were separated by a mere 26 points. The men's division took 1st place in the events of birling, pole climbing, single buck, crosscut saw, and pack board relay.
On a successful day for the team, the Laker's open division took 2nd place, finishing 1st place in disc stack, fire build, log roll, pack board relay, doubles underhand chop, and the canoe relay. The women's division would take a 3rd place position, with 65 total points separating a very strong playing field. The team would take 1st place in disc stack, fire build, and pulp toss to round out the meet.
The Lakers will await their next meet when they hit the road on October 29th at SUNY ESF for an 8 am start.
