Bio
Their Plaque Reads: The answer to the first question everyone has about the Schreiners is, No, the did not meet at FLCC. They attended at different times, but were both members of the Woodsmen's Team while in school. Winning the Chainsaw Accuracy event with the best score for both the women's and men's divisions during the 1991 meet at Sir Sanford Fleming is Erica's favorite student memory. She earned an A.A. degree in pre-environmental science and forestry in 1991, and transferred to Rutgers University where she received a B.S. degree in natural resources management in 1993. Erica has completed professionally since 1991 and is an accomplished competitor in stock and modified chainsaw, an event dominated by males. She credits her skill to advice received from Coach Marty Dodge who told her, You have to listen to the saw to make it work efficiently.
Andy attended FLCC from 1992-1994, and after completing some coursework at Onondaga Community College earned an FLCC A.A.S. degree in electrical technology in 2001. He joined the woodsmen's team his first semester on the advice of neighbors. Winning the Spring Meet two times by large margins are among his favorite memories. Andy began competing professionally in 1994, and holds four world records in the Two Man Cross Cut and one world record in the Bow Saw event.
They began sawing in the Jack and Jill Cross Cut in 1993 and 15 years later consistently place in the top five in this event as well as hold five world records. Their longest winning streak was 2006 with 13 consecutive first-place finishes. At numerous competitions they have won the overall trophy of the day. Andy's favorite win was in 2004 at the Fryeburg Fair (Maine) and Erica's is from the 2007 North Haverhill Fair (New Hampshire). Competing in 20-30 contests annually throughout the entire northeast, they have beens sponsored by Wood-Mizer portable saw mill since 1997. Held in Indianapolis in 2007, they participated in Wood-Mizer's 25th anniversary celebration by demonstrating several woodsmen's events.
Both are members of the NYS Lumberjack's Association; for nine years, Erica has served as secretary. They also volunteer at FLCC woodsmen's meets as judges and times, and Andy assists ESF team members and volunteers at some of their meets. Andy and Erica, married on Arbor Day 1996, live in a log cabin near Oswego, and heat their home with wood logged from their property. For 14 years Erica has been a district educatior with the Oswego County Soil and Water Conservation District. Andy completed 11 months of active duty with the Army Reserves in 2003-2004, and has been employed for 13 years as a technical quality facilitator at Specialized Packaging Group.
