Bio
His Plaque Reads: Steve Varney anchored the CCFL Woodsmen's team during his years as a student from September of 1975 through May of 1977. He combined strength, athletic talent and innovative practices that earned him and his team great respect from the many competing schools in Northeastern North America. Steve assumed responsibilities as a Conservation Department technician in 1977 and volunteered as Woodsmen's coach. In 1981 Steve accepted a full time job at FLCC as the school carpenter. At that time he assumed the position as Woodsmen's coach that he has filled to this day. The FLCC women won the Championship for the first time that year. In his very quiet and humble manner, Steve's steady, dependable and innovative presence as a coach and maintainer of equipment has contributed in a significant way the 28 additional championships earned by the Woodsmen and Women through 2006. In his capacity as coach and role model for the past 25 years, Steve Varney has earned deep admiration and respect from more that 300 Woodsmen's Team members.
