Lakers Break Through with First Win of the Season at Tompkins Cortland

DRYDEN, N.Y. - The Lakers put together a complete performance to notch their first victory of the year, using a pair of goals from Madison Fitzwater (Avoca, N.Y./Avoca) and a second-half game-winner from Aurora Woodworth (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) to earn the 3–2 result.

After Tompkins Cortland opened the scoring in the 18th minute, the Lakers responded just three minutes later when Fitzwater found the back of the net off a feed from Kaylen Julien (Avoca, N.Y./Avoca). Fitzwater struck again in the 40th minute, this time unassisted, to give Finger Lakes a 2–1 lead going into halftime.

The Panthers leveled the match early in the second half, but the Lakers answered quickly. In the 54th minute, Woodworth broke the deadlock with a strike, her third goal of the season, to seal the win.

Goalkeeper Hester Van Der Lek (Groningen, Netherlands/CSC Augustinus) tallied three saves to help seal the victory for the Lakers, who improved to 1-6 (1-4).

Looking Ahead:
The Lakers travel to Onondaga Community College for their season finale this Saturday, October 11th, for a 1 PM match with the Lazers.
