Lakers Open Track & Field Season with Promising Start

Houghton, N.Y. - It was a meet full of firsts for the Lakers as several athletes made their track & field debuts, while many freshmen competed at the collegiate level for the very first time. Despite the new experiences and heightened competition, the team rose to the occasion in impressive fashion, recording more than eight personal bests on the day. For those new to the sport or stepping onto the college stage for the first time, the performances were nothing short of commendable — taking on the challenge of a collegiate meet is an achievement worth celebrating.

Among the standout performances, Hannah Grace Check made finals in the shot put and punched her ticket to nationals with a qualifying mark of 9.33 meters.  Jadah McCarthy delivered a strong sprinting performance, placing 4th overall in the 200m while also posting a collegiate-best 8.64 in the 60m.

On the men's side, Ruairi Steverson captured his mile heat with an impressive season-opening time of 5:08.78.

A promising start to the season, the Lakers showed poise, determination, and plenty of potential as they continue to build momentum.
