JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. – #12 Finger Lakes Community College women's volleyball made a statement on Saturday, sweeping Jefferson Community College and defeating #9 Fulton-Montgomery to improve to 8–3 on the season. The Lakers opened with a 3–0 win over Jefferson (25-20, 25-7, 25-16) and closed the day with a 3–1 victory over the nationally ranked Raiders (23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19).
In the opener against Jefferson, Finger Lakes controlled play throughout. Anna Kurtzhalts (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) led the offense with 9 kills, while Allyson St. Germain (Cincinnatus, N.Y./Cincinnatus) added 7 kills on a .353 hitting percentage and picked up 11 digs. Setter Olivia Scheuer (Constantia, N.Y./Paul V. Moore) ran a balanced attack with 27 assists, and Emma Balduf (Bergen, N.Y./Byron-Bergen) helped extend rallies with 6 digs and 4 aces.
The second match brought an even bigger result as Finger Lakes downed #9 Fulton-Montgomery in four sets. Kurtzhalts delivered one of her strongest outings of the season, finishing with 23 kills on 46 attempts for a .326 hitting percentage. Kayce Hennekey (Rochester, N.Y./West Irondequoit) provided support in the middle with 8 kills at .375 efficiency, while Scheuer directed the offense with 45 assists and chipped in 3 kills. St. Germain added 9 kills, and Tomlinson anchored the back row with 17 digs.
The Lakers finished the day 2–0, marking their first win of the season over a nationally ranked opponent.
