Bio

His Plaque Reads: Professor Coons completed his Bachelor's degree from Ithaca College, his graduate work at NYU and joined the faculty at Finger Lakes Community College in 1994. Coach Coons, a life-long runner, revived the Women's Cross Country program at the College. During his tenure as head coach his teams won four Mid-State Athletic Conference titles and Coach Coons was named coach of the year on four occasions. Under Coach Coons the program produced numerous Academic and Athletic All-Americans besides the annual accomplishemnts of his runners in the Mid-State Athletic Conference and Region III of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

The former department chairperson and athletic director was a leader in the development of physical education wellness courses and was a state-wide leader in the expansion of physical education into the integrated health field.

John's personality and commitment were extremely instrumental in motivating and encouraging every student athlete to reach his or her highest level of achievement. He did not consider a task completed unless it was done to the highest standard. John's outstanding integrity and principles have made him an excellent role model for athletes and coaches.
