Lakers Lacrosse Advances to Regional Semi-Finals
The Finger Lakes Community College lacrosse team will advance to the NJCAA Region III Semi-Final round, for the first time in program history, after defeating the Bulldogs from Dean College on Tuesday, April 26. The No. 4 seeded Lakers will face the No. 1 seeded Lazers from Onondaga Community College in the semi-finals.
After after a close 14-13 victory over the Bulldogs early in the regular season, The Lakers looked to duplicate that success in Tuesday's matchup against Dean College. Both teams came ready to play and were hungry to advance to the next round of the NJCAA Region III tournament.
The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the contest. The Lakers responded quickly, scoring two against the Dean defense. by the conclusion of the first quarter, the score was tied with four goals apiece.
Great defensive play was noticable by both teams as they were held to just one goal apiece in the second quarter of play. The Lakers pulled ahead in the third quarter by a score of 6-5 as the Lakers defense continued to shut down the Bulldogs attack.
Finger Lakes added two more goals in the final quarter while giving up just one to Dean. The Lakers claimed victory by a final score of 8-6 over the Bulldogs and advance to the semi-final round of the regional tournament.
Matt Hall, Zakk Mount and Ben Sennett finished with two goals apiece for the Lakers. Ethan Bakogiannis had one goal and three assists. Konnor Bick had one goal. Andrew Buck finished with two assists and Alex Chiara had one. Matt Spoor finished with twelve saves in goal for the Lakers.
The No. 4 Lakers will travel to Onondaga Community College to face the No. 1 Lazers in the semi-final round of the NJCAA Region III tournament. The game is set to begin at 12PM on Saturday, April 30. The victor will play the winner of the Genesee CC vs. Monroe CC game taking place the same afternoon at 2:30PM.
