Dominant Defensive Effort Leads Lakers to Season-Opening Win

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes women's basketball opened the 2025-26 season in commanding fashion, defeating Nazareth University JV 64-29 on their home floor Tuesday night.

The Lakers set the tone early, storming out to a 17-7 lead in the opening quarter and never looking back. Their defense was relentless, holding Nazareth to just 2 points in the second quarter and 4 in the third to take a 55-13 lead into the final frame.

Ava Read (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) led the way, recording a dominant 16 points and 18 rebounds for a double-double. Breanna Dunning (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) added a team-high 20 points, knocking down a pair of 3-pointers and collecting 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Chloe Scott (South Seneca, N.Y./South Seneca) also posted a double-double with 9 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Kayla Taylor (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) contributed 9 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the win.

Finger Lakes outrebounded Nazareth 67-42 and forced 31 turnovers in a dominant effort to open the season.
