Lakers Drop Home Conference Matchup to Onondaga

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. – Finger Lakes women's basketball fell to 1-2 on the season after an 85-48 loss to Onondaga Community College on Wednesday night.

The Lakers opened the night looking to build on their strong season debut at home, but Onondaga's defensive pressure and fast-paced offense proved difficult to slow down. Despite the loss, Finger Lakes had several strong individual performances.

Breanna Dunning (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan) led the Lakers with 20 points, knocking down 4 three-pointers and providing an early spark offensively. Ava Read (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) battled inside all night, finishing with a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double while shooting 6-of-8 from the free throw line.

Jackie Neureuter (Pembroke, N.Y./Pembroke) added 6 points and 4 rebounds off the bench, and Kayla Taylor (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) pulled down 9 rebounds. Chloe Scott (South Seneca, N.Y./South Seneca) contributed 6 rebounds and a block in the effort.

The Lakers shot 68% from the free throw line and held their own on the glass with 40 rebounds, but 28 turnovers allowed the Lazers to create separation throughout the night.
