Fitzwater, Woodworth Score in Women’s Soccer Home Finale

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Corning struck early, scoring three times in the opening 18 minutes to take control of the match. Finger Lakes pulled one back in the 33rd minute when freshman forward Madison Fitzwater (Avoca, N.Y./Avoca) finished a feed from Kaylen Julien (Avoca, N.Y./Avoca) to make it 3–1 at halftime.

The Red Barons extended their lead with three more goals in the second half before the Lakers responded again. Freshman midfielder Aurora Woodworth (Middlesex, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) netted her second goal of the season in the 82nd minute to close the scoring at 6–2.

Goalkeeper Hester Van Der Lek (Groningen, Netherlands/CSG Augustinus) recorded 13 saves before giving way to Kadience Powell (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy), who added 7 stops in relief. Together, the pair combined for 20 saves on 26 shots faced.
