Finger Lakes’ Depth Defines 9–1 Rout at Home

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. - Finger Lakes delivered its most dominant performance of the season Monday evening, cruising to a 9–1 victory over Bryant & Stratton–Rochester to improve to 4–0.

The Lakers wasted little time asserting control. Daniel Ojedayo (Ibadan, Nigeria/Opicc) opened the scoring in the 7th minute, finishing off a setup from Bautista Suarez (Salta, Argentina/Colegio Belgrano). Fifteen minutes later, Riley Cooper (Aberdeen, Scotland/Dyce Academy) doubled the lead with a solo effort, and freshman forward Finn Atkinson (Warrington, England/Kings Leadership Academy Warrington) added a third in the 34th minute off a pass from Lennart Schaefer (Dortmund, Germany/Max-Planck-Gymnasium).

The onslaught continued when Abdelali Zariouh (Zeeland, Netherlands/Scalda) converted a service from Cooper in the 40th minute, giving the Lakers a 4–0 lead at halftime.

Finger Lakes wasted no time after the break, with sophomore Joao Viana (Sergipe, Brazil/Colegio Master) scoring just 1:59 into the second half off a feed from Atkinson. Robin Giesing (Essen, Germany/Gymnasium-Essen-Werden) struck next, finishing a ball played in by Bernardo Reffiel Del Castel (Sergipe, Brazil/Pró-mundo) to make it 6–0.

The Lakers weren't done. Germán Guzzi (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Imei) capped a well-worked sequence with Reffiel Del Castel assisting in the 64th minute before Bryant & Stratton pulled one back at 67:14. Finger Lakes answered immediately, as sophomore defender Allan Matheus (Sergipe, Brazil/Americano Batista) netted his first of the year unassisted on a penalty shot and Varun Naidoo (Johannesburg, South Africa/Hillcrest) finished the scoring in the 79th minute from a pass by Giesing to cap the match.

Sophomore goalkeeper Harry Eastwick (Christchurch, New Zealand/St. Thomas of Canterbury College) recorded the win in net. The Lakers outshot the Bobcats 22–5 with 17 on target.

Looking Ahead:

Finger Lakes (4–0) now turns its attention to a midweek road test, traveling to Henrietta, N.Y. on Wednesday, September 3, to face the Tribunes of Monroe Community College.
